A Place of My Own

Child abuse!!! March 31, 2008

Filed under: Pissifying, Singapore — Min @ 9:35 pm

I’m supposed to be studying but I really have to let this off my chest because I really really really think that this ah ma’s horrid action should be publicised!

The story goes like this: I was at a friend’s house doing project and on my way back from Rivervale Mall, there was this ah ma with her crying grandson. Nothing unusual about kids crying right?

When I walked closer, I saw the ah ma slapping the boy repeatedly on the cheeks! Its definitely not the slap-one-time-just-to-warn-you kinda. She was slapping him left right left right continuously!!!

And, of course, the poor boy wouldn’t stop crying. I mean, any normal human being wouldn’t stop crying after being slapped right?! So guess what the ah ma did?!?

SHE STUFFED TISSUE PAPER INTO HIS MOUTH!!!!!!

Like OMG isn’t that considered abuse?! Worse of all, she covered his mouth so that he couldn’t make noise and couldn’t spit the tissue out!!!

I was on the verge of rushing over to scold that ah ma already, but I’m a humchee Singaporean. Doesn’t she understand how serious it could be?! I mean, the boy could have choked!! And being an ah ma, shouldn’t she be experienced enough to know what to do? Zzzzz……

What ever happened to kind and caring grannies who would bake you cookies and read you a story? :(

NBS students beware! March 27, 2008

Filed under: Food, Misfortunate Events, Old Times, Pissifying — Min @ 3:26 pm

Remember this?

27-03-08_1234

Yup, from the good ol’ primary school days. Found it in a vending machine at NBS and was so excited about trying it to rekindle the lost feelings!

When I opened the packaging, I was kinda… disappointed. Somehow I remember the cake to be bigger than this? But good things come in small packages right?

Sadly, it wasn’t the case. After I took one bite, there was a slight sourish after-taste. Hmmmm…. Didn’t remember it tasting like this 10 years ago. Unsure of whether it was my tastebuds or my memory was the one failing me, I took another bite.

This time around, I was pretty sure it wasn’t my tastebuds or my memory. So I took a closer look at the cake and I saw………. MOULD!!!

YES, MOULD ON MY CAKE!!! THE CAKE THAT I TOOK TWO BITES FROM!!!

No pictures of the mould though, coz I immediately dumped it in the bin. But it was white and look like strands on cotton. Was pretty sure it wasn’t sugar (as suggested by Hanyee) coz it was isolated to one part and I don’t remember sugar on the cake.

OMG I so wanna complain but sadly I have no picture evidence of the mould. Cheat my feelings (and my 60 cents)……. I was so eager to get in touch with my inner child and yet they try to poison me!!! Stupid Malaysians!!! PISSIFYING!!!

DO NOT BUY L’Oreal De-maq’ Expert Elixir Concentrated Gel Make-Up Remover March 26, 2008

Filed under: Beauty, Pissifying — Min @ 10:38 pm

I’ve always liked L’Oreal products, which was why I tried very hard to control myself from reviewing this product. However, I realised that it was against my conscience not to talk about it.

About 1 1/2 months ago, I bought this…

L’Oreal De-maq’ Expert Elixir Concentrated Gel Make-Up Remover

 image

Sounds damn pro right? Got the word ELIXIR leh… Just like the chinese word 仙丹 sia…

WRONG!!!

If you are reading this, please DO NOT buy it. This is like the worst L’Oreal product I have ever bought!

The auntie promoting it told me that with this, you only need ONE product to clean both your face and eyes. Furthermore, she said don’t need to use cotton pad anymore, just “搓, 搓, 搓” can liao.

WAH damn good right?! Don’t need to use cotton pad, only need 1 product, can save the environment and save money! (Actually never save alot coz the remover itself is quite ex) That was what I thought, until I used it.

Firstly, the thing has a funny smell. Not smelly, just funny.

Secondly, it stings! Which should not be the case for a product that is supposed to be for waterproof eye makeup right?!

Thirdly, after rubbing the elixir on to melt away the makeup, you’re supposed to add water to emulsify it. BUT! When this thing touches water, it turns milky and suddenly your vision is shrouded in a veil of white!! So, by the time you finish removing makeup from one eye, you have to do the other eye half-blind. When you finish both eyes, then you have to clean your face completely blinded. And it takes quite awhile for your vision to be clear again.

But nevermind all these. I can bear the pain and smell and temporary blindness if ta product is good. But the problem is – THE ELIXIR CANNOT REMOVE MAKEUP THOROUGHLY!!!

After I used the elixir and rinsed off, I still found mascara bits stuck on my lashes! And I took a cotton pad to wipe my face and there were remanants of foundation! Like OMG, I went through all that and I still end up with a half-clean face?!?!

The conclusion? Its just like what they say: When something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

My wishlist March 26, 2008

Filed under: Life, Shopping — Min @ 5:18 pm

Since I would be a working professional soon (hopefully), I realised that its time to contribute back to the family.

Which is why I think its apt to start a shopping list of things I wanna buy when I have the moolah.

1. For my brother

  • PS3/Wii/Xbox
  • iPod
  • Professional camera

2. For my sister

  • Crumpler bag
  • iPod

3. For the family

  • High definition TV
  • New washing machine
  • New paint job
  • New sofa
  • New dining set

4. For dear dear

  • PS3 (provided he does not get one by then)
  • PDA phone
  • More Man U stuff
  • Lots and lots of love!!! Lol.

Judging from the list of things, I think I need to earn $10k a month. What’s more, this list is not exhausive and does not include what I wanna buy for myself. Which is ALOT. LOL.

Better start looking for a job now if I wanna fulfil all these.

Japanese porn….. I mean, lingerie March 26, 2008

Filed under: Hottie — Min @ 2:18 am

Chanced upon this, a Japanese lingerie website. Scandalous, provocative and oozing with sex appeal. *sizzles* And I’m not just talking about the lingerie.

No, its not a social escort website. They ARE selling lingerie.

6

The reason why our men love japanese porn.

But I don’t really get it. Lingerie are meant for women right? So what’s with that yearning look on their faces? Is sex supposed to sell to women too?

Maybe they are trying to get the men to buy the lingerie for the women?

Or maybe they are trying to get the women to aspire to be like the models to please the men?

Either way, I don’t quite get it.

I mean, can someone explain to me how she is supposed to sell lingerie when she is not wearing any?

Should I get the W910i? March 26, 2008

Filed under: Shopping, Tech Check — Min @ 12:23 am

Dear offered to buy me a W910i.

Super slim and only 86g!

Omg isn’t it just drop dead gorgeous?!

I saw it on display at Singtel and I immediately fell in lurve with it. Its new interface is uber cool too. AND IT IS IN RED!!! Like, what more can I ask for?!?

But unfortunately, the reviews have not been as kind. Critics say the keypad is rather poorly designed and the sub-par camera is disappointing. Which is kinda sad coz I prefer camera functions over walkman functions, since I already have an iPod.

And it also suffers from the ultimate gripe of all handphone users – IT HANGS! At least, that’s what most of the CNET users say.

Sighhhhhh….. So I guess its just another pretty looking thing? Such a pity though. =(

This is just too adorable for words.

Dark choc + White choc = Milk choc

Makes me wanna rub noses with my dear too! Haha… Oops!

Disappearing posts. Again. March 23, 2008

Filed under: Pissifying — Min @ 3:50 am

While reorganising my categories, it seems like one of my older posts has disappeared again.

This is despite WordPress stating that:

Deleting a category does not delete the posts in that category. Instead, posts that were only assigned to the deleted category are set to the category Uncategorized.

Zzzzz… I am very annoyed.

Getting myself inked… March 23, 2008

Filed under: Random — Min @ 3:27 am

I’ve been thinking about getting a tattoo since forever. And now that there’s this Miami Ink show, I’m even more fascinated with tattoos.

Those tattoo artists on the show are absolutely amazing! They can transform something on paper into a piece of art on flesh. Best part is when they can do freehand drawing i.e without a stencil. Really shen I tell you.

Then again, I can’t possibly fly over to Miami to get something done right? That is, if the shop really exists. Haha…

Problem is I have my doubts about Singapore’s standards when it comes to tattooing. What’s more, this is tattooing we’re talking about! If you tio a lousy one, that’s it already! Its not like a haircut where the hair can grow up in a few months right lor. Have to use laser to remove a bad tattoo *ouch*

Anyway, I’ve even thought of a few designs already if I ever do go and get a tattoo done.

1. Butterfly

I like this one. I actually had the photo since eons ago. I like the soft vines and lil butterflies accompanying the main one. Makes it look balanced and not so dull. Nice!

2. Fairy (ala Tinkerbell)

image

I think fairy tattoos are cool too. Especially if you can make them a lil evil and not the typical garden fairy. I absolutely love the tattered wings that this fairy has and how the artist used b&w to bring up the texture and dimensions.

3. Star

image

Shooting star. A lil flat and 2-d but perhaps with more shadows it’ll look nicer.

image

I think the nautical stars are nice but quite punk rock. Dunno if I can carry it off though.

I also thought of dragonfly, angel, vines with abit of flowers, heart and alphabets. Seen those on the show before and it turned out pretty neat!

The more I talk about it the more I wanna get one done right now!!! OMG I am so scared I will just do something on impulse. LOL.

A Good Friday indeed March 23, 2008

Filed under: Entertainment, Food — Min @ 12:44 am

Easter holiday was spent at the movies with the cousins and my bf catching this!

image

As expected, the girls (which means me, my sis and zying) didn’t find it that nice. BUT the guys were like sooooooo into it and they found it damn cool/nice/awesome/______. My guy-vocab is rather limited.

I personally found the show rather…… tiring. Ok, I know its kinda weird to be using tiring but its the most apt word I could think of.

The show is only around 90 mins long and there is this critical 23 minutes. The selling point of the show is that this 23 mins is re-told EIGHT times so that you can see it happening from EIGHT different people’s point of views.

So everytime 1 person’s part ended, the whole thing literally rewinds back to 11:59.59 am and then it starts all over again. By the 3rd or 4th time, the audience were pretty tickled by it. There was a mix of sian sighs (including me) and amused laughters and huhs (mostly from kids). Pretty funny stuff. This is kinda why I like watching movies in big theatres coz you can soak in the audience’s moods and reactions.

After the movie we went for dinner at this new mala steamboat place at Vivo. Its rather secluded, tucked away in a corner just behind Hog’s Breath. But the view was nice. You can see the monorail coming and leaving and the entire Sentosa bridge.

Coz it was their first day of operation, it was only $13.90++ per pax. Normally it would cost like $23.80++ so we were pretty lucky. =) I found the food satisfactory. Not a very wide array of food, but the soup base was nice. Service was lacking in alot of areas, mainly coz they were understaffed. Oh, did I mention it was opened by Ah Tiongs?

Don’t think I’d be going back anytime soon coz not really worth $23.80. If everyday got promotion then I might consider. Haha… I sound like such a cheapskate. =P
