A Place of My Own

Sec 4 boy killed in car accident September 2, 2008

Filed under: Misfortunate Events, Stupid Things in Life — Min @ 9:37 pm

Just read from ST that a Sec 4 guy died after getting into a car accident while driving his brother’s car illegally. Of course, since he is only 16, he did not have a driving licence, but according to his friends he has been driving for quite awhile already.

Well, if you ask me for my opinion, all I can say is……

SERVES HIM RIGHT!

I know you’re probably thinking that I am being a little too harsh. “Oh but he’s just a boy!” “He’s too young to die!” and blah blah blah. Sorry, but I think he brought this upon himself. He and his idiotic family.

Please don’t tell me that his family, especially his older brother who owns the car, does not know that he’s been driving around. Like, hello??? You mean you cannot tell that someone has been driving your car around behind your back meh?? Wah then alot of people can just steal your car, drive and then put it back the next day and you wouldn’t even know!!!

And what kinda mother are you if you don’t even know what your son has been doing behind your back. Sorry, I meant SONS. Clearly the older brother must have been the one who taught the younger one how to drive. Unless, of course, he’s a boy genius who just woke up one day and suddenly knew just how to accelerate, brake and PARK! If that’s the case, I think Bt Batok Driving Centre and the likes can just close down already.

And please don’t scream at me for my lack of sympathy. Would you think he deserves any sympathy if he hadn’t killed himself but instead knocked someone else down and killed an innocent pedestrian??? Obviously not right???

My only words of condolence to his family? I hope you can get over the guilt of murdering your own son/ brother.

The last goodbye April 21, 2008

At approximately 8.30 pm this evening, Ham Ham left us.

It was all too sudden. It was only this afternoon that dear told me Ham Ham was looking listless and he took him to the vet. The vet said there was nothing much he could do but give him antibiotics and liquid food.

We tried to feed Ham Ham with a syringe but he had great difficulties keeping it down. As I watched him struggle, I couldn’t hold my tears back. He was choking and wheezing so badly, as though he couldn’t even breathe proper. Our poor baby was reduced to skin and bones, a vast difference from his chubby self just a few days ago. It pained us so much to watch him suffer.

But when I was holding him and stroking him to sleep, I even told dear that his breathing wasn’t that heavy anymore and there was hope that he might get better. But little did I know……

And when dear buried him, all I could do was to watch and cry……

Ham Ham when he was still a teeny weeny lil baby.

All contented in his lil TV set, which was getting a tad too small for him.

I decided against posting Ham Ham’s last parting shot, simply because its too painful to look at him in that state. I want him to be remembered in his best moments – that cute, cuddly, greedy lil ball of fur.

Ham Ham, I’m sorry I didn’t spend more time with you when I had the chance. I just want you to know that I really love you very very much and I miss you so much. I don’t know what happens to hamsters when they move on, but I hope you’re in a happy place now. And I hope that you will remember us coz we will never forget you. Goodbye.

Polygamic ranch raided! April 19, 2008

Shocking News!!!

SAN ANGELO, Texas (CNN) — Hundreds of children who were taken from a polygamist ranch by Texas child welfare authorities will remain in state custody, a judge ruled Friday night.

Women arrive Friday at the courthouse wearing their traditional high-collared, pioneer-style dresses.

Judge Barbara Walther also ordered court DNA testing for all 416 children who lived at the YFZ (Yearning For Zion) Ranch in Eldorado to determine their biological parents. (Apparently, they don’t know who are the biological parents coz these children don’t have birth certificates!)

The compound is run by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — a Mormon offshoot that practices polygamy.

Walther made her ruling after two days of testimony at a hearing to determine whether the children were properly removed by child welfare authorities.

Walther said she found sufficient evidence for Texas Child Protective Services to keep custody of the children.

Officials are now looking for “the very best temporary placements for these children,” said Marleigh Meisner, CPS spokeswoman.

“This is not about religion — this is about keeping children safe from abuse,” she added.

An attorney representing some of the children said he planned to appeal the ruling.

“We’re a little disappointed in what the process turned out to be,” said Cody Towns.

The ranch raid stemmed from a series of phone calls in late March from a 16-year-old officials referred to as Sarah, who said she had been beaten and forced to become the “spiritual” wife to an adult man.

FLDS members have denied that the girl, supposedly named Sarah Jessop Barlow, exists. Authorities have been trying to locate her, but have been unable to identify the girl.

Texas Rangers said Friday they are pursuing a Colorado woman as a “person of interest” regarding the phone calls that touched off the raid. Authorities said a search of the home of Rozita Swinton, 33, resulted in evidence that may link her to phone calls made about the YFZ ranch.

Earlier in the day, a defense witness testified that it is uncommon for a polygamist sect to force girls as young as 13 into marriage, as the state alleged. (Uncommon doesn’t mean not possible? So there are such cases?)

Religious scholar John Walsh also addressed a particularly damning piece of evidence: At least one bed found inside a temple that was allegedly used to consummate such marriages immediately after the ceremony. (OMG!!! Blasphemy!!!)

“Historically, the only use of a bed in a temple is for temple worship itself,” said Walsh, who said he has studied the FLDS practices for 18 years. “The worship lasts a couple of hours, so all the temples will have a place where someone can lie down.”

But, he said, “To my knowledge, there has never been any sexual activity in a Mormon temple.”

Walsh said he also studies the mainstream Mormon church, which renounced polygamy a century ago and has no ties to the FLDS. He said without the polygamy aspect, the FLDS would resemble the Baptist or Catholic religions.

Walsh was followed to the stand by FLDS member Marilyn Jeffs, who said she was not forced into marriage before age 18. It wasn’t clear whether Jeffs is related to jailed FLDS leader Warren Steed Jeffs.

Another FLDS woman, Maureen Jessop, said she was a mother of two toddlers and an infant, but also was trained as an emergency medical technician — despite her husband’s wishes. Jessop said she is a stay-at-home mother by choice. “I have a wonderful life in Eldorado,” she testified.

Also testifying Friday was child psychiatrist and state witness Bruce Perry, who said FLDS children are taught that disobeying orders leads to eternal damnation and have little opportunity to learn how to make independent choices.

Young children are not mature enough to enter into a sexual relationship or a marriage, he added.

Perry, who has worked with families in groups such as the Branch Davidian sect near Waco, Texas, said that if the children are allowed to remain in state custody, “There have to be exceptional elements in place for these children and their families. The traditional foster care would not be good for these children.

The state had the burden of demonstrating to Walther why removing the children was necessary.

In court Thursday, Texas state officials presented records they said show 10 women were either married or pregnant as minors. The list was found during the raid, locked in a safe at a main ranch office building, the officials said.

Another report apparently revealed that there were several pregnant teen girls at a polygamist ranch who called each other “sister wives” and who believed it was acceptable to be “spiritually united” with a man at any age.

It was the belief that no age was too young to be married. About 130 of the children removed were under the age of 4 and that girls as young as 13 had conceived children at the ranch.

I find the news really disturbing. It kinda reminds me of the HBO show Big Love where this Mormon guy has 3 wives and the prophet has a wife who is 16!!

Personally, I don’t approve of polygamy. Not because I don’t like the idea of sharing a husband, but more of the fact that these children are being abused without knowing it! They have no say about how their lives should be and they can’t break free from this cycle. Its as if the girls from compound are being “bred” to be wives and for reproduction purposes.

And i don’t know what is worse – The fact that the men are so perverted and horrid or the fact that these women are so cruel and dumb.

NBS students beware! March 27, 2008

Remember this?

27-03-08_1234

Yup, from the good ol’ primary school days. Found it in a vending machine at NBS and was so excited about trying it to rekindle the lost feelings!

When I opened the packaging, I was kinda… disappointed. Somehow I remember the cake to be bigger than this? But good things come in small packages right?

Sadly, it wasn’t the case. After I took one bite, there was a slight sourish after-taste. Hmmmm…. Didn’t remember it tasting like this 10 years ago. Unsure of whether it was my tastebuds or my memory was the one failing me, I took another bite.

This time around, I was pretty sure it wasn’t my tastebuds or my memory. So I took a closer look at the cake and I saw………. MOULD!!!

YES, MOULD ON MY CAKE!!! THE CAKE THAT I TOOK TWO BITES FROM!!!

No pictures of the mould though, coz I immediately dumped it in the bin. But it was white and look like strands on cotton. Was pretty sure it wasn’t sugar (as suggested by Hanyee) coz it was isolated to one part and I don’t remember sugar on the cake.

OMG I so wanna complain but sadly I have no picture evidence of the mould. Cheat my feelings (and my 60 cents)……. I was so eager to get in touch with my inner child and yet they try to poison me!!! Stupid Malaysians!!! PISSIFYING!!!

Pain pain go away! January 22, 2008

Filed under: Misfortunate Events — Min @ 12:23 am

Was planning to do some cny shopping today but I had to ditch my plans barely 5 seconds after stepping out of the house. Why?! All thanks to my stomach who decided to hit me with a double-whammy of gastric plus diarrhoea.

I know it sounds funny – how can someone have both at the same time??? Well, welcome to my world, where anything and everything can happen to my stomach. So it was a dilemma – should I go home and wait for the pain to disappear or should I continue and grab a bite outside (since there was nothing to eat at home anyway). At last, I could not resist the temptation of a shopping trip and I went ahead with my plans.

Sadly, I didn’t make it very far. Well, at least I got till NUS law school, which was technically pretty close to Orchard, before I had to make a U-turn back home. The pain was so unbearable that I was breaking out in cold sweat and my legs felt like jelly.

I’m starting to get really frustrated by my body. These sudden pangs of pain are almost like clock-work; once the time is up, it will come. And it makes me worry about how I’m gonna go to work next time. Will my boss really understand and empathise with my condition? I mean, how am I gonna bring it up to him/her in the first place?

“Sorry ah, Boss. I cannot come to work coz I got stomach ache………Yes, I know last time I told you the same thing but I am not lying. Really got stomach ache…………………………… Hello, Boss? Boss? Hello?”

- dead tone -

Ha! I can imagine it already. -_-
